WHY HBCU?

HISTORICALLY BLACK COLLEGES & UNIVERSITIES

Student Experience

HBCUs provide students something they can't get anywhere else — a diverse & inclusive community of scholarship that celebrates the richness of the entire American experience.

Sense of Belonging

HBCU students typically report feeling a sense of belonging and pride when attending an HBCU. The student's college experience will be one surrounded by many people with similar backgrounds and cultural experiences. They will experience a unique community of support and understanding among faculty and their peers. HBCUs also provide a variety of student groups to further explore hobbies, research interests, social issues, etc., that may not be present at PWI

Affordability

Lower cost and less debt. According to the UNCF Fact Sheet, the average cost of attending an HBCU is 27% less than a comparable predominantly white institution (PWI).

After College Preparedness

Black colleges continue to outperform non-HBCUs in graduating successful Black professionals in a number of fields, including science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.
